I almost wish Polanksi would drop the fight over extradition and instead return to the States and fight the underlying charges.
It has some risk and might be an expensive proposition, but it might be the last chance he has to clear the air in a decisive way.
Obviously, when liberty is at risk, you fight every fight you can to keep yourself free, rather than to protect your "legacy." Also, I don't know about the quality of your typical state criminal trial court judge in California.
Would you agree that Polanksi would, in some ways, be better served by actually defending himself against the charges, rather than argue about procedural matters? That's just my opinion.
I think it would be best to worry about the procedural matters first, considering if his defense doesn't go well, he could spend the rest of his life in prison... I also imagine there will be additional charges for fleeing the country, regardless of how his defense turns out.
I hope they fry the rapist and put him in a prison where they will show him what it's like to be raped up his ass- only without the alcohol and qualudes he gave to his 14yr old victim. ANYONE who defends this monster should ask themselves if they would forgive a priest for the same EXACT act, or is the act of rape only supposed to punished if you don't like or agree with the criminal committing the act? I am a Catholic- and I say that rape is rape- no matter by who or against who- fry them all!! No matter.
